Starting music therapy can feel like a big step. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often from families and individuals considering our services.
Music therapy is a clinical and evidence-based practice that uses musical interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship. Unlike music lessons, which focus on teaching musical skills, music therapy uses music as a tool to support cognitive, emotional, social, and physical health outcomes. Our certified therapists are trained to assess, plan, and deliver interventions that address specific therapeutic objectives.
Music therapy can benefit individuals of all ages and abilities. It is commonly used for children and adults with autism spectrum disorder, dementia and Alzheimer's disease, developmental delays, stroke and traumatic brain injury, anxiety and depression, and chronic pain. If you or your loved one is facing challenges that affect communication, movement, cognition, or emotional well-being, music therapy may be a valuable addition to your care.
A referral is not required to begin music therapy with us. However, we often collaborate with physicians, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care. If you have a referral or relevant medical documentation, please bring it to your initial consultation โ it helps us tailor the approach from the very first session.
You can schedule an appointment by calling us at (915) 341-9766 or emailing suncitymusictherapy@gmail.com. We will arrange an initial consultation to discuss your needs, answer any remaining questions, and determine the best course of action. Sessions are available during weekday business hours at our El Paso location.
